HOLY DISCONTENT - 1

In Nehemiah 1, we are given a glimpse into the heart of Nehemiah 1:1-4:

The words of Nehemiah the son of Hachaliah. It came to pass in the month of Chislev, in the twentieth year as I was in Shushan the citadel, that Hanani one of my brethren came with men from Judah and I asked them concerning the Jews who had escaped, who had survived the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.

And they said to me, "the survivors who are left from the captivity in the province are there in great distress and reproach. the wall of Jerusalem is also broken down, and its gates are burned with fire."

So it was, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept and mourned for many days; I was fasting and praying before the God of heaven. Nehemiah 1:1-4

  • Nehemiah was concerned about the current state of his brethren (family, those in covenant with him, etc.)

  • Nehemiah was concerned about the current state of Jerusalem

Upon learning what the status was, Nehemiah wept and mourned. But he also fasted and prayed. His love led him to one of the greatest places where love would later be demonstrated one day for us in the Garden of Gethesemane.

Who and what are we concerned about? I know some of the people for me are my children and family, what about you?

What conditions are we concerned about? I know in this season for me it really is the condition of the Body of Christ, the Bride of Christ, what about you?

Are our concerns leading us to the place of demonstrated love in intercession?

Next, we will examine Nehemiah's prayer. See you next time! Love y'all mucho!
